8vo., xxviii, 740 pp. including index. Text diagrams, illustrations, maps and tables. ¾ fine-grained black cloth lettered in gilt. Marbled paper-covered boards. Fine red-speckled edges.

Small piece of cloth chipped from tail of spine, minor rub to joints. Some surface wear and scratches to marbled boards. Early owner signatures in ink to half-title. Clean and tight. A very nice copy.

De La Beche (1796 – 1855) was the first Director-General of the Geological Survey of the United Kingdom and a pioneer in early geological survey methods.
