3 vols. complete. Vol 1: ix, (1), 395 pp. Vol 2: (2),393 pp. Vol 3: iv,418 pp. including appendices and general index. Each volume with a different frontis portrait of Darwin, each with tissue guard, two additional plates in total. Errata for each volume listed in the prelims of volume one, plus additional erratum slip tipped in to volume one. Olive green cloth with spines ruled and lettered in gilt. Black coated endpapers.

Light rub and wear to outer corners. Weakening of cloth at head and tail of spines re-enforced with discreet Japanese tissue repairs. Minor losses at tail of spine on vols 2 & 3, professionally repaired with toned Japanese tissue. Minor end splits. Textblock of vol. 2 split between pp. 176-177 and repaired. Light stains to corners of last few leaves volume three. All volumes have a very slight lean. Otherwise a solid, clean and very presentable set.

Sir Francis Darwin (1848 - 1923), third son of Charles Darwin. Assisted his father during his later years, especially in plant experiments.
